Polar Vortex on the Prairie

When the boiler blew, it left us with no heat during the Polar Vortex of 2019. With eight space heaters plus a wood-burning fireplace, we maintained the house between 50-60 degrees, depending on the time of day. The sun—a welcome guest—warmed our kitchen table, as seen in this photo. The new boiler was installed just in time for the temperatures to lift into the 40s, melt piles of snow, and suggest a rainstorm on the horizon. Winter often appears still and lifeless, but its moods are full of action and, sometimes, danger. Our house is now back to its warm and cozy state. We hope all of you are safe and comfortable in your home, wherever you may be.
